NSW: Primary school students have skills tested
More than 150,000 primary school students in New South Wales will have their numeracy
and literacy skills tested today.
Premier BOB CARR says about 162,000 year 3 and year 5 students will sit basic skills
tests with parents and schools receiving a detailed report of the results.
Mr CARR says these tests allow teachers, schools and the government to identify students
needing additional assistance.
He says any student found to have below standard literacy skills will receive a specialised
individual literacy plan.
Ninety four per cent of New South Wales students reached the national benchmark standard
for numeracy and literacy in the tests last year.
