NSW: New medical tests will leave train driver shortfall: Costa

SYDNEY, Jan 16 AAP - Stricter medical testing of train crews introduced after the Waterfall
derailment would leave a shortage of train drivers in NSW, Transport Minister Michael
Costa said today.

Train driver Herman Zeides, 53, was one of seven people killed when a Tangara train
crashed south of Waterfall station on January 31 last year.

The accident inquiry found Mr Zeides had suffered a heart attack at the controls and
that inadequate medical examinations had failed to detect that he was at risk.
