FED: Demand on Salvation Army up 30 per cent
The Salvation Army says drought and bushfires have pushed up demands on its servicesby up to 30 per cent in the lead-up to Christmas.
The Salvos anticipate helping 300,000 people around Australia this month, providingChristmas lunch for more than 8,000 people and distributing 250,000 toys and 150,000 foodvouchers or hampers.
Salvation Army Major MARK CAMPBELL says with the added impact of drought and bushfiresthe charity's resources are being stretched to the limit.
Donations can be made to the Salvation Army's Christmas appeal by ringing its nationalhotline on 13 32 30 or by post to PO Box 9888 in capital cities.
