Ticket orders for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games are off to such astrong start that fans are urged to get their dibs in by Dec. 12 orrisk missing a shot at the most popular events, such as women'sfigure skating.
Requests have been accepted for only about a month, but the SaltLake Organizing Committee said earlier this month that it had alreadyreceived about $45 million in orders. Day 1 brought a staggering $23million, close to three times the projected $8 million.
Though some people still won't get to attend competitions theywant to see, all orders placed by Dec. 12 will have an equal chancebecause requests for oversubscribed events will be filled by lottery.Seats will be assigned to those winners, who will be notified inFebruary or March, based on the postmark date of mail orders or thesubmission date of Internet orders. About 90 percent of orders so farhave been placed online.
If you don't order by Dec. 12, you won't have another opportunityuntil June, when any remaining tickets from the 850,000 allotment setaside for Americans will go on sale.
Prices run from $20 for cross-country skiing and short-track speedskating events to $885 for opening and closing ceremonies. Fordetails, visit www.saltlake
